AI-powered Mental Health Revolution

Mental health doesn’t require searching endlessly for answers outside of yourself. The truth is, the answers you’re looking for are already within you

Mental health doesn’t require searching endlessly for answers outside of yourself. The truth is, the answers you’re looking for are already within you.

We’re building Emma to help you find them.

Years of experience in psychotherapy, both as a clinician and as a client, have led me to the conclusion: when it comes to mental health, the current paradigm is deeply flawed — and AI can (and will) make it significantly better.

The Lost Art of Soul Work

Let’s take a step back to understand where things went wrong. The word "psyche" comes from the Greek word ψυχή, which means "life," but also carries the deeper meanings of "spirit," "soul," and ultimately "self." Traditionally, psychology and mental health have been about soul work — understanding the depths of who we are and why we feel, think, and behave the ways we do.

However, since the 1960s, mental health care has been co-opted by the medical paradigm. This shift wasn’t made in the name of better care but rather to fit mental health into a framework that allows patients to be treated with a diganostic code and medical interventions and clinicians to bill insurance and consistently get paid. Over time, the economics of mental health have pushed it further into a medical model focused on diagnosing and treating symptoms rather than understanding the deeper, psychological purposes behind them.

The Problem with the Medical Model

In this model, mental health is treated like physical health: see a doctor, get diagnosed, receive treatment, and hopefully, get cured. But the mind and emotions aren’t as straightforward as a broken bone or a physical illness. While there are biological factors that can contribute to mental health challenges, these are not always — and I would argue, rarely — the root cause.

The current system focuses on labeling people with disorders and prescribing medication to manage symptoms. If one pill doesn’t work, you’re given another, or your dosage is increased. If that still doesn’t work, you might be labeled "treatment-resistant." But what if the issue isn’t a disorder to be fixed, but a signal that something deeper is out of alignment?

What if the anxiety, depression, or stress you feel is your body and mind telling you to slow down, learn new skills, take a different path, get out of a relationship, or prioritize your well-being?
